Updated description of Open Hydrology from
Open science, and in particular open hydrology, are needed to facilitate access to sound scientific information on the status of water resources and also look at hydroclimatic hazards, such as flood and drought. Openly accessible hydrological information is key to supporting informed decision-making for sustainable water resources management, adaptation to climate change impacts and disaster risk reduction and management. This publication compiles state-of-the-art information on the need for open hydrology and the current state of development of its pillars: 1) Open Data; 2) Open Source; 3) Open Education; 4) Open Infrastructure; 5) Open Publishing; 6) Open Participation.
toThis publication has laid out a strategic framework to integrate Open Science into hydrology, illustrating its true potential to enhance research transparency, collaboration, and accessibility within water management practices. The six pillars — open data, open source, open publishing, open infrastructure, open education, and open participation — constitute the structure of the Open Hydrology framework designed to promote transparency and reproducibility.
